Scared

I was in Edsa Shangrila a while ago and I really hate to ride this escalator but I had no choice. I was looking for a restroom in a hurry when I realized that I am about to go down in this two storey long escalator and can’t go back because someone is already at my back. So I rode the escalator then stayed at the middle, shaking the whole time. Waaaahhh..

Enjoying Life

Living life is not just about waking up each day working for money, tiring yourself and not realizing how much time are wasted. I know that we have different views on how to live life to the fullest, but one thing is for sure, we need to enjoy it.

Most of us are stressed with too much work, complaining about the limited personal time or leisure time, which is simply the “work-life balance”. I’ve read a blog about this work-life balance, which was described in a different but optimistic perspective and I want to share what I can recall (because I can’t remember where I’ve read that blog, but the message reached my heart that’s why I am able to share it).

So here it goes:

As a working professional, we need to devote most of our time working, rendering overtime on weekdays or even on weekends. Work can take up to 10 hours of our time or even straight shifts for worst cases. As a person or as a human being, we are also bound by our limits to perform maximum efficiency thus resulting to complain about “work-life balance”. But have we ever accepted the fact that we chose this and that we are working for money, instead of money should be working for us?

Take this example for instance, a friend invited you to play a friendly basketball game, since you love playing basketball you agree. So what do I mean by this? You accepted the invite since you love playing basketball even though you will not receive any compensation for the time you spent playing. Are you now getting my point?

So the fact that you accepted the job offered means that you like what you will do or will be doing in the future. What about overtime? Basketball also have overtime, especially when the game is intense. Same with work, overtime is needed when the project schedule is fast approaching. The only difference is that money is working for you while you’re enjoying what you do. See?

But if you still want a “work-life balance” which is 8 hours of work and the rest is personal time, then maybe you need to change your career path and do something that really interests you. 😀

WSOP Final Table

Currently watching the super delayed telecast of world series of poker on ESPN. I can feel the tension happening at Rio Las Vegas, Nevada even though I’m not there. 😀
The stakes are high since it is the final table of the main event for 2011. It’s now heads up for the championship bracelet between Martin Staszko from Czech Republic and Pius Heinz from Germany.
I was rooting for Anton Makiievskyi in 8th and Eoghan O’ Dea in 6th but they didn’t make it to the top 3.
Watching how Heinz was struggling with his chips, you’ll wonder how he managed to take home the $8.7M and the bracelet.
It is really a moment of frustration for everyone watching as the commentator mentioned.
Did Heinz just winked at Staszko and Staszko smiled back? or maybe it was just a smile of a “what a tough game you’re playing”. 😀
Moment of truth 1: Heinz all in
Heinz doubled up with AQ heart suited winning by a high card against Q9 club suited, which left Staszko to be short stacked by 44M.
Moment of truth 2: Staszko all in
With 10 7 club suited, Staszko raised all in and Heinz called with AK club suited. The flop: 5c 2d 9s the turn: Jh and the river: 4d giving Pius Heinz the WSOP champion bracelet, making him the first 22-year-old champion from Germany.

By the way, I like Heinz’ jacket. ahahaha

Congrats and great game Pius and Martin!!

Wow, the replay of the november nine table will be aired on Sunday at 8:00 pm PST (Philippine Time) courtesy of ESPN. Need to set my alarm for that. 😀

Learning is fun

I want to learn a new language and I’ve chosen the Ukrainian language. 😀 I don’t know why I’d chose this but I think it’s less complicated compared to 日本語 or the Japanese language.

To be honest, I don’t know where to start. I googled the alphabets and it doesn’t seem as easy that I’d thought. Maybe or I really need to take this learning by heart and start seriously. Someone on twitter is very much willing to help me translate phrases but I should not rely only on that.

For the list of alphabet, you may click here. Courtesy of google, thanks!

I’ve already installed the Ukrainian keyboard and already tried typing some words, but I don’t think I’ve created a word with sense. 😀 The only word or name I am sure about is антон or Anton (typed using the english letters – fynjy), which I am still having a hard time looking for the letters in the english keyboard (trial and error basis).

There’s also this phrase “нема за що (translation – you are welcome; transliteration – [nema za shcho]) :)” but I still don’t know how to type it the keyboard since I haven’t listed its equivalent english letter in the english keyboard.

So I guess learning should be enjoyed because it is really challenging! 😀

Weekly Photo Challenge: Path

I was waiting at the train station last 11.11.11, it was already around 6:00pm. The sun already set and the moon and the stars are the only light shining up the sky. I walked towards the train station hurriedly so that I can catch the train and luckily I did plus an added bonus of taking this picture.

PNR

So what is special about taking this picture?

Well for me, I was just astonished how the headlight of the train lighted up the path. Before the train arrived, I took a picture of the railroad and it was just pure blackness.

A game of Poker

Poker for me is a game of wits, chance and luck which I first learned last year. It was introduced to me by my officemates because they are talking about it and I also got curious. Poker is a card game where 2 or more people can play. The rules are simple, just beat the hand of your opponent and the pot money is yours, but beating your opponent (not literally) needs a lot of skills.

It is important that you know the basics of the game, if not please do some research, but knowing how the game is played is not enough. There are other skills that you must have or else you need to develop them.

1. Be emotionless

You need to stay firm. Your actions or your face can give a lot of clue to your opponents, sometimes hand gestures also give signs if you’re bluffing or you have a strong hand.

2. Be aggressive

Bet high if you have the guts to do it even though you have a weak hand. Intimidate your opponents, because if you got intimidated first, you can’t tell if your opponent is only bluffing.

3. Study or if possible, read the mind of your opponent

Look for signs from your opponents. Sometimes they show habits that they do whenever their hand is weak, this can be seen how they bet the chips during live games, or the cheeks shake if they get excited, which can mean their hand is strong.

4. Know when to hold ’em or fold ’em

After carefully judging your opponents actions and also reflecting on how you bet, you should be able to tell whether to fold or to hold.

5. A lot of luck

Of course, you also need a lot of luck for times where you can’t determine those mentioned above.

These are just my opinions. 😀 It is still up to you how you will play a hand, whether to FOLD or to HOLD.

Surviving PNR

PNR stands for Philippine National Railways or simply the train (I don’t know how to best describe it, please bear with me :D). These are some battles that I encounter whenever I am waiting for the train, inside the train and going out of the train.

Waiting for the train is where the battle starts. Even though it is still around 100 km afar, passengers are lightly pushing one another hoping that the door will stop in front of them. There are also different techniques that I learned just by observing what the people around are doing to take advantage in entering the train first. Some of them are the following – will walk on the yellow platform edge then will stop in front of those that are already waiting, reading newspaper so that the space they occupy will be enough for them to adjust where the door might open.

Once all the waiting passenger enters, another story is created. This is where hard pushing occurs. People entering tend to push the one in front of them just to make sure that they don’t miss the ride because if they do, they will wait for 30 mins, during rush hour, and 1 hour if not.  Usually there’s a commotion going on between people inside the train and people who are entering, which is usually about being pushed.

Another challenge is how to get out when you already arrived at your stop especially when the train is already crowded and a bunch of passengers are already waiting to enter. Expect that tension will build up and people tend to shout, argue and become violent.

These are some quotable quotes that I usually hear from people around:

“If you don’t want to be pushed, take a cab”  (“Kung ayaw mong matulak, mag taxi ka!”)

“Don’t lean on me, I am not a post”  (“Wag mo ko sandalan, hindi ako poste”)

“Please give way to passengers alighting the train, they are not our relatives for us to meet them”  (“Pakiusap sa mga pasahero, wag po nating salubungin ang mga bumababa. Hindi natin sila kamag-anak”)

Thinking about anything

I have many ideas that I want to write about, but I can’t find the right words to start the story and that led me to write this. I always start with a good title, but I don’t know how to express the story behind it. I guess it will come to me in due time. Unlike this blog, the words just come out naturally and I don’t know why. Maybe because this blog is not a serious one and I just let my fingers type whatever words come out of my mind.

Now, after the first paragraph, I don’t know what else to say. All I’m thinking about now is how annoying the noise of those people are making. Can’t they see that we are serious in our training (even though we’re not :D)? Anyway, I am now distracted and can’t think of what else to say.

Actually, I am not affected that they are talking but their voices is so irritating. They all talk at the same time and laugh as if nobody is around, it’s like two people shouting at each other, worse they are a group. So imagine how many people are talking and laughing. Do they need to make everyone else hear what they are gossiping about? Sometimes they are talking nonsense and their voices distract everyone around them.

Hmm, they are now talking quietly. Maybe someone complained about their noise. I wonder who that is and I want to say thank you. Too bad I can’t post this blog now, so I’ll post it later when I get home
